Both the 2.4 ghz and the 5.0 ghz work very nicely. Talking to customer support is difficult as the DLink technicians have poor English skills and are unknowledgeable. However. it took me 7 calls (not exaggerating) to make them successful. Expect hours to get the internet plus the "utility Port" for the printer to work.Very well designed product, but expect some customer support grief to get the router working. Make sure you download the latest "firmware." Now 1.11 as of review date
Great router. Easy to configure and secure and as fast as I hoped it would be. I have had no problems with it whatsoever.
Set up was a pain. Finally they wrote me to call in. Version A1, Firmware 1.01I recently upgraded my old g level router to this one. Haven't used the 5 GHz band much. Can only connect 1 person at a time to the usb storage device and I could not see it when connected wireless. This required also downloading a new usb utility and setting up my router a 2nd time - 5 minutes this time. But it I got it working in less than an hour. The max rate I connected wireless was 130 Mb/s. We traded email 3 times with them asking unecessary clarification questions each time.
I had better things to do and hung up. As with my experience with other routers, the documentation was spotty, with lots of inconsistencies. I did, and after answering another barrage of questions off their list I was put on hold for 5 minutes. At first I got half this, but bumped the default frequency from 20 to 20/40 and it improved. Tried customer support and got the typical royal run around. Unfortunately this crap is all to typical.Read the reviews and decided to upgrade my firmware to 1.11. Finally - yes, I can access my usb disk wirelessly.
I would like to begin by saying that Amazon's customer service is impeccable. Next, this product kept dropping connection and forcing the adapter to reconnect. This product on the other hand is not worth its cost. The range is terribly weak, the speed was inconsistent by bursting packets of data and having lag the next minute. Also, it is utterly point less to buy this router unless your adapter can handle the 5ghz frequency. I got the dwa-552 xtreme n adapter which apparently get on the n frequency.LASTLY TECHNICAL SUPPORT KNOWS NOTHING THEY ARE NO HELP.
Had constant connection failures out of the box. D-Link has a lot to learn on the manufacturing side and, most importantly, on the customer service side, which, at best, is horrendous. Firmware upgrade was suggested. Latest firmware installed and all connections (wired, 2.4Ghz, 5Ghz) still crap out at least once every hour. You have to spend 5 hours on the phone w/ them to have them admit it's they're problem. All while telling the user it's user error, user equipment error (all your non-D-Link equipment, of course, is to blame).
